Academic attire, or regalia, ordered for Bloomfield College graduates continues traditions that date back to medieval times. Today academic regalia is worn primarily for Commencement and other academic ceremonies indicating the wearer is an educated person and has earned an academic degree. The hood lining color represents the college or university that conferred the degree, and the velvet edging color represents the specific degree awarded.
To continue our sustainability efforts at Bloomfield College, the Commencement regalia - named GreenWeaver® - is made of fabric spun from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles molten pellets. For every Bloomfield College graduate walking at Commencement, an average of 25 plastic bottles will have been used to manufacture the cap and gown.
Since 2017, Bloomfield College has helped to divert over 54,000 plastic bottles from landfills!
